THE STORY
Built in 1812–14 for Stockport industrialist Peter Marsland, Woodbank Hall was designed by Thomas Harrison. Historic England lists the villa and entrance portico at Grade II*. The house later served as a museum, while its grounds became a public park.
The hall has suffered prolonged deterioration. Council reporting records fabric and roof repairs completed in December 2024, with future-use proposals at feasibility stage. The surrounding park offers a public setting in which to appreciate the exterior; the building itself is closed.
